Medical Grade Adhesive
ISO 10993 is a standard that evaluates a product’s biocompatibility.
The standard is divided into various parts, each representing a specific evaluation.
ISO does not issue certificates for approved products but only publishes the standards 10993-x that medical adhesives must comply with.
Certificates are issued by external certification bodies.
Examples of ISO 10993 Approved / Biocompatible Adhesives:
- ISO 10993-5 Test for In Vitro Cytotoxicity
- ISO 10993-10 Tests for Irritation and Sensitization
- ISO 10993-11 Tests for Systemic Toxicity
RoHS - Ingredient Approval
The RoHS directive, formally the European Parliament and Council Directive 2002/95/EC of January 27, 2003, restricts the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment, banning various heavy metals and more in certain electrical and electronic products from July 1, 2006.
REACH - Ingredient Approval
REACH, standing for Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation, and Restriction of Chemical Substances, is a regulation from the European Commission aimed at ensuring that the approximately 100,000 different types of chemicals used in the EU are documented regarding safety for humans and the environment.
Biocompatibility - Medical Approval
These adhesives are tested for cytotoxic compounds, irritation, and sensitization.
