How to glue Polyimide (PI-Plastic)
How to bond Polyimide (PI-Plastic)
PI is an aromatic, linear polymer typically produced through a condensation reaction, such as the polymerization of aromatic dianhydride and aromatic diamidine. The polymer can then either be cast by solvent evaporation to form a thermoplastic, such as Kapton film, or precipitated to form a "pseudo-thermoplastic," such as Vespel. This pseudo-thermoplastic is not a true thermoplastic since it decomposes thermally before its glass transition temperature, nor is it a true thermoset since it is not crosslinked.
The most notable properties of PI are its solvent resistance, barrier properties, and performance at both high and low temperatures. PI also has good dielectric properties, which remain constant over a wide frequency range, good elongation, and good wear resistance. PI is chemically resistant to most organic solvents and diluted acids. PI is highly resistant to radiation.
Polyimide (PI) is used for valve seats in nuclear power plants, as thermal and electrical insulators, and as X-ray fluorescent sample holders. Additionally, PI fibers are used in flame-retardant clothing and filters for hot and corrosive liquids and gases. PI is also used for manufacturing various components.
The surface tension of Polyimide (PI) typically lies between 40 and 50 dyn/cm.
Envex, Kapton, Kinel, Matrimid, Meldin, NEW-TPI, and Vespel are all different trade names for Polyimide (PI) produced by their respective manufacturers.
Bonding
Bonding of Polyimide (PI-Plastic) typically requires thorough cleaning of the surface with an appropriate cleaning solution.
Use a PI adhesive that is compatible with PI ??????????????????????????????????????????
It is important to follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for proper application and curing of the Polyimide adhesive to ensure a strong and reliable bond.
After bonding Polyimide (PI), it is important to perform a quality test to ensure that the adhesive joint meets the required strength and durability.
